How the Academy works
Everything you need to know before joining — simple, clear, and supportive.
Lesson Hub
This is your lifelong archive of personalized learning. Every lesson you take — along with its video replay, assignments, and annotated scores — is stored here and organized by piece, composer, and topic. You’ll always be able to return to your past work, even years later. Many students find that as they grow, earlier lessons reveal new depth. This is not just a library of replays — it’s a growing record of your journey.
Digital Score Edits
Forget taking notes or wondering what to mark — I annotate your scores live during each lesson. All edits, personalized exercises, and tailored technical notes are immediately saved and uploaded to your cloud right after the session. You’ll have 24/7 access to your materials, ready to download and review anytime — no risk of losing your progress or forgetting what we worked on.
Studio Quality Setup
Your lessons are delivered with top-tier clarity using studio microphones and multiple 4K cameras. This setup ensures you hear every nuance and see every technical detail — from left-hand articulation to right-hand stroke. You’ll feel like you’re right here with me in the studio, making it easier to absorb and apply what you learn.
MFA Library
Stop wasting time hunting through scattered videos and social media clips. The MFA Library gives you instant access to everything we’ve ever produced — all our public content, plus exclusive Academy-only materials — neatly organized and easy to browse. Find answers, discover new topics, and revisit what matters to you, all in one place.
Live Events & Workshops
Join our monthly livestreams for a powerful combination of Q&A sessions and technique workshops.

• Q&A is your direct line to personalized feedback. Ask me anything — technique, repertoire, study routines, or musical phrasing — and I’ll respond live with actionable insights. You’ll also receive any supporting material I find useful for your question.

• Technique Workshops are perfect if you’re practicing alone but want real correction. We play together, and I coach you in real time, helping you fix technical issues and reinforcing essential habits. It’s a dynamic, interactive way to move forward — even without private lessons.
Frequently asked questions
The MFA Classical Guitar Academy is an online platform designed to give passionate guitar learners access to structured programs, live coaching, and personalized support — wherever they are.
Whether you want to study independently with professional guidance or commit to ongoing private lessons, the Academy helps you grow through live events, curated learning paths, and an inspiring community.
You can join the MFCommunity anytime — just choose your membership and get instant access to events, the library, and study resources.
If you’re interested in the MFApprentice program (private 1:1 lessons), you’ll first need to apply for the student waitlist. We do a quick screening to make sure the format is a good fit for you and that we can offer you the right support. Once accepted, you’ll receive a private invitation to join.
The MFCommunity is ideal for independent learners seeking structure and support without committing to private lessons. You’ll get access to live workshops, Q&As, the full MFA Library, and video feedback options.
The MFApprentice membership is for students seeking one-to-one mentorship with Merce. It includes private lessons, tailored coaching, and a more transformative, hands-on experience.
There’s no free trial lesson available, as Merce's schedule is already full with regular MFApprentice students and community events. However, you’re welcome to book a single one-to-one lesson at any time (see booking calendar availability). This allows you to experience how I teach and see if the Academy is the right fit for you.
After the lesson, you’ll receive the recording replay, access to the edited score(s) we worked on, and a login to the Academy platform so you can review the session anytime. It’s a complete experience designed to give you real value from the very first step.
Yes, absolutely. You’re free to cancel your membership at any time — no questions asked. Once you cancel, you will retain full access to the Academy until the end of your current billing cycle.
Since memberships renew monthly on the same day of purchase, your access will simply expire on that date. No further charges will occur after cancellation.
We want you to feel completely in control, with no pressure and no surprise fees.
Once you complete your purchase, you’ll be asked to create your account during checkout. As soon as that’s done, you’ll be redirected immediately to the Academy Member Area, where you can:
Join live events
Request video feedback
Browse the Lesson Hub (if you've purchased a Single Lesson previously)
Engage in community Group discussions
You’ll also start receiving a series of guided emails to help you get to know how the Academy works and make the most out of your membership.
If you prefer a more visual walkthrough, there’s a Getting Started section inside the Academy with short guides (some in video form) to help you navigate everything easily.
And don’t worry about missing anything — we’ll send you weekly reminders about upcoming events, and you can even start submitting your questions for the next live Q&A right away!
It depends basically what you wish to play. If you want to learn the top solos and riffs of your favourite band guitarrist then you should go for an electric guitar.
For a beginner I personally don't recommend so much the acoustic (or electroacoustic) guitars because are very hard to start with for the hands because are the kind of guitar with most tension at the neck and the steel strings make it even more painful for right and left hands...
On the other hand, if you like to play chords and sing along, fingerpicking or classical pieces then you should think of buying a Classical (also called Spanish) Guitar.
In the MFA Academy we are Classical Guitar specialized, so all students play with a classical guitar.
