A new edition has been added to the MF Editions catalogue:
Romanze in F major, Op. 118 No. 5 by Johannes Brahms, transcribed for classical guitar by Carlo Marchione.
Composed in 1893, the Klavierstücke Op. 118 belong to Brahms’ late piano works — music of intimacy, refinement, and expressive restraint. The Romanze stands apart within the set for its lyrical continuity and warmth, unfolding as a single, unbroken melodic line.
The piece is built on balance rather than contrast. The melody emerges naturally from within a flowing accompaniment, supported by subtle harmonic shifts that enrich the texture without disrupting its calm surface.
This new transcription adapts the work to the guitar while preserving its cantabile character and structural clarity. The arrangement allows the instrument to sustain long phrases and maintain a natural sense of continuity, where tone and balance take precedence over projection.
A reference performance of the original piano version is included below.
