A new edition has been added to the MFEditions catalogue:
Moment Musical, Op. 94 No. 5 by Franz Schubert, transcribed for classical guitar by Carlo Marchione.
The Moments Musicaux, Op. 94, reveal Franz Schubert’s ability to condense strong musical ideas into compact forms. No. 5 departs from the more continuous flow of its companion pieces, presenting instead a more articulated and rhythmically driven character. The music is shaped by clear gestures and directional shifts. Accents, harmonic turns, and changes of texture create a sense of movement that feels purposeful rather than fluid. Phrases do not simply unfold — they are built, redirected, and sometimes interrupted, giving the piece a more grounded and active presence. There is a tension between control and spontaneity. The rhythmic profile remains defined, yet the harmony introduces moments of instability that subtly alter the course of the music. This is Schubert with edge — concise, structured, and expressive through contrast rather than continuity.
This new transcription adapts the work to the guitar while preserving both its fluidity and its expressive contrasts. Through careful voicing and balance, the arrangement allows the instrument to sustain Schubert’s changing textures without disrupting the natural flow of the music.
A reference performance of the original piano version is included below.
